Box Score UTICA, N.Y. - The top ranked SUNY Geneseo ice hockey team went on the road to No. 2 Utica College on Saturday night and pulled out a huge 3-0 win to secure their spot atop the rankings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First-Year forward Peter Morgan continued his impressive start to the 2021 season with a first-period goal in the 15th minute. He was assisted on the play by first-year defender Tommy Winn and senior forward Levi Wunder.
- The early goal proved to be crucial for the Knights as the Pioneers offense put the pressure on for the rest of the game. Junior goalkeeper Matt Petizian had tallied 16 saves through two periods to help the Geneseo defense keep Utica off the scoreboard.
- The Pioneers continued to press for the equalizier, but the Knights stood strong and wouldn't back down throughout the third period. Once Utica left their net empty, senior forwards Brendan Miller and Ryan Burnett picked up a pair of goals to seal the victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Morgan, Petizian, and senior defender Chris Perna were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Petizian recorded his first shutout of the season on 23 saves, and improved to 5-0.
- The 3-0 victory also marked the first win in program history for Geneseo against Utica as they dropped the previous five matchups.
