Field Hockey Outlasts Oswego, 1-0, in Overtime

OSWEGO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant calmly buried a penalty stroke in overtime to send the Knights to a 1-0 victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Oswego on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo outshot the Lakers, 20-7, including 11 shots on goal while holding Oswego to just four, but could not find the back of the net in regulation. 
  • In the overtime period, the Knights generated several scoring chances, including back-to-back penalty corners in the 64th minute. 
  • With just under four minutes to play in overtime, Sturdevant broke free for a breakaway but was tripped up on her path to goal, earning a penalty stroke.
  • Sturdevant buried the stroke to give the Knights the sudden victory win, 1-0.

  • Geneseo earned its fourth-straight win, and improved to 2-1 in overtime games. 
  • Sturdevant tallied her fourth goal of the season, tying junior forward Maggie Phipps and sophomore forward Katrina Clare for the team lead.
