Women's Soccer Settles For Scoreless Draw Against Cortland

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior goalkeeper Angel Bennett made eight saves as the Knights finished with a scoreless draw opposite visiting Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday evening at College Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Knights and Red Dragons played through an even first half as Cortland outshot the hosts, 6-5, through the opening period. 
  • Cortland applied pressure throughout the second half, outshooting the Knights, 10-5, in the period, but Bennett turned away every attempt to keep the score level and force extra time. 
  • In the overtime periods, Geneseo generated several scoring opportunities but could not manufacture the game-winning tally as the game ended in a scoreless draw. 

QUICK FACTS 

  • The Knights were held without a corner kick for the first time this season while Cortland was limited to just two. 
  • Senior forward Hannah Sullivan led the Knights with four shots on goal while sophomore forward Liv Raucci tallied two shots on goal. 
  • Bennett earned the draw and the shutout in net, her second career clean sheet, while moving to 4-0-1 in goal. 

WHAT'S NEXT? 

Geneseo (8-2-1, 3-0-1 SUNYAC) will host Potsdam on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Knights will celebrate Senior Day, honoring the Class of 2022 in a pre-game ceremony.
