Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team played with 10 men for the final 45 minutes and still nearly found an equalizer, but ultimately fell to host Cortland, 1-0, on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo fell behind in the 28th minute as Cortland generated a close-range opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the 45th minute, the Knights received a red card as time expired in the first half and were forced to play the entire second half a man down.
- In the 73rd minute, first-year defender Joe Vogt hit the crossbar on a header from a corner kick serve, and junior midfielder Adam Astarita's follow-up shot went over the crossbar.
- Five minutes later, junior midfielder Justin Arilotta beat a defender to a loose ball at the top of the box and slid a shot just wide of the left post.
- Geneseo continued to press for the equalizer, but Cortland denied the Knights another quality chance and held on for the 1-0 win.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo earned four corner kicks while holding Cortland to just three, but the Red Dragons outshot the Knights, 17-14.
