Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Brendan Miller tallied back-to-back goals and gave the Knights a second period lead that they would not relinquish as the squad earned a 6-3 victory in the season opener at Neumann on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neumann got on the board first, scoring just over five minutes into the game. The Knights responded quickly, as sophomore forward Greg Koutsomitis tallied the equalizing goal just 25 seconds later to make it 1-1.
- Junior forward Justin Cmunt ripped a blistering slap shot over the goalkeeper's shoulder to give the Knights a 2-1 lead with a power play goal later in the first period. Neumann responded with a power play goal of their own as the teams went into the first intermission tied, 2-2.
- The Knights dominated the second period as Miller netted back-to-back goals in a 2:46 span to give the team a 4-2 lead with 6:12 to play in the frame. Senior defenseman Matthew Doran added a power play goal and junior forward Bryan Zurowski scored as the Knights took a 6-2 lead before the end of the period.
- Neumann tallied a goal just past halfway through the third period to cut into the Knights' lead, but Geneseo held on for a 6-3 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- First-year goaltender Adam Harris made 21 saves in his collegiate debut to earn his first career victory in net.
