Lindsay Wright's Goal Secures Top Seed for Women's Soccer in 1-0 Win at Fredonia

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team clinched the top seed and home field advantage for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament after defeating Fredonia 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Knights put the pressure on early, as senior forward Nicole Bell registered the first two shots on goal in the opening twenty minutes.
  • The offensive pressure shortly paid off for Geneseo as Lindsay Wright found the back of the net with a header in the 22nd minute off a pass from Hannah Sullivan.
  • Although the Knights continued to rattle off shots on target, they couldn't expand the lead. Geneseo's defense got the job done though as they only allowed three shots in the game and earned the shutout victory.

QUICK FACTS

  • Junior goalkeeper Angel Bennett tallied two saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season. The win also marked the Knights 11th shutout this season.
  • Geneseo has now earned the top seed in the SUNYAC tournament for four consecutive seasons.
  • The Knights only allowed five goals this season, which is tied for eighth-best in the country.

WHAT'S NEXT

Geneseo will host the winner New Paltz and Fredonia on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
