Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped as the squad fell to host New Paltz, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights and Hawks played through an even first quarter as the Knights edged the hosts, 3-2, in penalty corners but New Paltz outshot Geneseo, 3-2.
- Late in the second quarter, New Paltz broke the scoreless tie with a goal, as the Knights went into the halftime break trailing, 1-0.
- Junior defenders Olivia Vinciguerra and Sadie Mitchell each made defensive saves in the third quarter to keep the Knights within one goal.
- New Paltz tallied two goals in a 2:11 span of the fourth quarter, including a penalty stroke goal, to take a 3-0 lead. Mitchell tallied a late goal off of a penalty corner, but it wasn't enough as the Knights fell, 3-1.
QUICK FACTS
- Junior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan made five saves while Vinciguerra, Mitchell and sophomore defender Olivia Hernick each earned a defensive save.
- Mitchell's goal marked her third-consecutive game with a score, the longest scoring streak by a Knight this season. It marks the first time a Geneseo player has scored in three-straight games since Julia Kim '20 tallied scores in three-straight in 2019.
