Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team picked up a crucial and thrilling State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory on Friday afternoon against Buffalo St. The Knights earned a 2-1 double overtime victory on a last-minute goal from junior forward Tyler Lewandowski.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half of action was dominated by the Knights as they controlled possession for the majority of the half and out-shot the Bengals 7-2, but the score remained tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
- Geneseo continued to get good chances offensively in the second half, but it was Buffalo St. who got on the scoreboard first in the 70th minute.
- The Knights were able to quickly rebound from the Bengals goal as junior midfielder Liam Mulderig found junior midfielder Adam Astarita alone on the back post for a header in the 79th minute to tie the game.
- In the first overtime period, junior forward Matt Volz put a header off a corner kick past the goalkeeper, but the Buffalo St. defense was there to make the team save and force the second overtime period.
- With all signs pointing towards a tie, first-year defender Joe Vogt sent a lofted ball over the defense and Lewandowski took advantage of a miscue between the Bengals defender and goalkeeper and sneaked the ball past them both to score the game winner in the final minute.
