Women's Volleyball Dominates Fredonia Behind Impressive Offensive Performance

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team earned its third-straigth sweep over a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent on Friday night as they dominated Fredonia with a high-powered attack.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Knights came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set as they quickly jumped ahead 10-2. Geneseo's offense continued to play at a fast pace and they took the first set 25-14 with a hitting percentage of .409.
  • The second set saw more of the same high-powered offense from the Knights as they started to run their attackers on different plays to keep the Blue Devils on their heels. They closed out the second set 25-12 and recorded 15 kills with just two errors on 31 swings.
  • In the third set, the Blue Devils started to settle in defensively and began to win some long rallies, but Geneseo's defensive line held strong and was able to keep the offense in system to pull out the 25-23 victory.

QUICK FACTS

  • The Knights hit .329 as a team, marking their highest hitting percentage of the season so far.
  • After sweeping Potsdam and Plattsburgh last weekend, Geneseo has now won five of its last six games, with four of them being sweeps.
  • Junior outside hitter Isabella Imbo led the offense with 13 kills, senior setter Morgan Michalski dished out 29 assists, and junior libero Emily Haber led the defense with 12 digs.
  • Also contributing solid offensive performances was sophomore outside hitter Madison Popielski with seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage, and middles Madison Gamberg and Jackie Borland each tallied five kills.

  • The Knights will play in their final home game of the regular season tomorrow against Buffalo St. at 1 p.m.
