Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team picked up a 3-1 win over Utica on Wednesday night at College Stadium behind a hat trick from Katrina Clare.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers had the first two shots on target in the first half of play, but both were denied by junior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan.
- The Knights recorded two good looks on goal in the final minute of the second quarter. Sophomore midfielder Emma Paris ripped a shot that was saved off a fast-break opportunity, and then junior forward Maggie Phipps fired a backhand shot through the goalie's legs in the final 10 seconds, but Utica came up with the defensive save.
- Geneseo continued its offensive momentum into the third quarter as Katrina Clare finally gave the Knights a 1-0 lead after a penalty corner.
- Clare kept cleaning up in front of the goal in the third quarter as she scored two more goals off of rebounds from penalty corners.
QUICK FACTS
- Clare now leads Geneseo on the season in goals and points with seven and 14, respectively.
- Clare scored all three of her goals in a span of just 3:48 in the third quarter.
- The win marked Geneseo's fifth-consecutive victory against the Pioneers.
- Darby Matthews recorded her second assist of the season on Clare's second goal.
