Box Score PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - Senior forward David Szmyd compiled one goal and one assist, but the Knights fell short in their non-conference matchup against the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 4-2, on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elmira got out to a hot start, scoring three goals within the first ten minutes of the game. Frist-year goaltender Matt Petizian was subbed in for junior goaltender Aaron Mackay after Elmira's third goal.
- Szmyd got the Knights on the board with a goal assisted by first-year forward Tyson Gilmour and senior forward Tyson Empey at the 10:13 mark.
- Elmira extended their lead to 4-1 in the early portion of the second period. Geneseo outshot Elmira 14-6 in the second period, but could not get on the scoreboard.
- With three minutes left in the game, senior forward Andrew Romano scored to cut the lead to 4-2.
- The Knights then pulled their goaltender with 1:11 left in the game but were unable to complete the comeback with the extra skater.
QUICK FACTS
- Romano completed his sixth-consecutive game with a point, his longest point streak of the season.
- Szmyd notched his fifth multi-point game of the season.
- Geneseo outshot Elmira, 47-17, and has outshot its opponent in all three of its losses.
