Morrisville Out-Lasts Men's Basketball, 95-85

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior guard Terrance Nichols totaled 18 points and seven rebounds but it was host Morrisville earning a 95-85 victory over the visiting Knights, Saturday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Geneseo scored the first seven points of the game en route to a 12-5 advantage after a layup by sophomore forward Alex Merhige with 14:31 on the first-half clock. 
  • A Merhige jump-shot posted the Knights to a 16-11 two minutes later, but the Morrisville used a 5-0 spurt to knot the game, 16-16, at 10:55. Geneseo responded with five-straight points of its own to re-take a 21-16 after a layup by senior guard Zack Panebianco at 8:49. 
  • Morrisville took a 24-23 lead at 5:55, but the Knights responded with a 13-5 run over the next four minutes to build a 36-29 lead. The Mustangs finished the half on a 7-1 run as Geneseo led 37-36 at halftime. 
  • Morrisville (7-3) took a 45-43 lead with 16:55 to play in the second half, but a Nichols three-pointer followed by six-straight points by first-year forward Michael Gannon finished a 9-0 run that put the Knights on top, 52-45, at 15:21. 
  • The Mustangs scored 12-consecutive points to re-take a 57-52 lead at 11:55. A jumper by forward Sean Crowley tied the game, 57-57, at the 11-minute mark, but Morrisville opened a 71-63 lead with 7:52 remaining that it would not relinquish. 
  • Geneseo got a close at three on two occasions, including 71-68 at 5:57 after a Nichols three-pointer, but trailed by as many as 11, 94-85, in the final minute. 

GAME NOTES 

  • Junior forward Jack Manke tied a season-high with 12 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. 
  • Panebianco finished with 15 points and currently sits at 982 for his collegiate career. 
  • Junior guard Terence Rogers compiled a career-high 11 assists while only committing two turnovers.

Geneseo returns to SUNYAC play on Tuesday (Jan. 8) with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Fredonia.
