Men's Basketball Earns Third-Straight SUNYAC Win, 105-78, over Brockport

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard Quinn Carey scored a game-high 25 points to help the Knights to a 105-78 victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Brockport, Saturday at Schrader Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Carey scored nine of Geneseo's first ten points on 3-4 shooting from beyond the arc as the Knights to an early 10-8 lead over the Golden Eagles.
  • Geneseo (12-9, 9-5 SUNYAC) ended the opening frame on a 6-0 run, featuring two points each from junior guard Zach Panebianco, sophomore forward Sean Crowley, and senior forward Kevin Crockett. The Knights took a 55-38 lead into halftime.
  • Brockport (14-6, 9-4 SUNYAC) cut the Geneseo lead to 12 with 13:42 remaining after a pair of free throws, but the Knights responded with a 10-0 run, including back to back three-pointers from Carey and Crockett to take an 80-58 advantage.
  • The Knights took their largest lead of the game with 1:28 remaining after a Joseph Harclerode III three-pointer, putting Geneseo up by 30 points. Crockett finished with 23 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Jordi Menkhorst tallied 10 points and shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.

  • Geneseo's 105-point offensive explosion marks the most points scored by the team since Dec. 9, 2013, a 117-43 victory over Alfred State. 
  • Carey tied his season-high with seven triples. He also hit seven three-pointers against Morrisville on November 21.
  • The Knights won their last two home games against the Golden Eagles, and have split the regular season series for the last three seasons.
  • Terrence Nichols compounded his highest point total of the season with an 11-point effort, which beat his previous high with eight points against Potsdam (Jan 20.) and Houghton (Dec. 30)

  • Geneseo has won three-straight games for the second time this season, and six of its last eight against conference opponents.

Geneseo returns to action Friday (Feb. 9) when they face SUNYAC opponent New Paltz at 7:30 p.m.
