Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forwards Cara Stafford and Giovanna Fasanello each scored a goal, but it was host Oneonta earning the 3-2 double-overtime victory, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oneonta opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play after Ally Wells scored off a deflection from the right side of the circle.
- Stafford drew the Knights even with 16:52 on the clock after finishing a scramble in front of the Red Dragon net for a 1-1 score that held until halftime.
- Fasanello gave Geneseo a 2-1 lead with 20:23 on the second-half clock after dribbling across the front of the Oneonta crease and scoring on a five-yard shot.
- Oneonta evened the score with less than seven minutes remaining in the second half after Sierra Palmatier scored on a shot from the top of the Knights' circle.
- After a scoreless first overtime, it was the Red Dragons earning the win with 6:17 remaining in the second extra period. Palmatier slipped a pass from the left wing to the front of the goal where Nicole Johnston tipped a shot past Geneseo first-year goalie Mia Ludwig or the deciding tally.
QUICK FACTS
- The game was a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Tournament Championship game, won by Geneseo, 3-2, in overtime.
- Geneseo out-shot Oneonta, 21-9, including a 12-5 edge in shots on goal.
