No. 6/8 Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Potsdam, 8-0

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Conlan Keenan scored three goals and added an assist while senior forward Trevor Hills added two goals and two assists to lead the No. 6/8 Knights to a 7-0 victory over Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday. 

With the victory, Geneseo (16-6-3, 10-5-1 SUNYAC) clinched the third for the SUNYAC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Brockport on Wednesday (Feb.22) at 7:00 p.m. Another win would set up a date with second-seeded Plattsburgh next Saturday (Feb. 25) for a semifinal tilt slated for 7:00 p.m. The SUNYAC Championship game will be played a week later (March 4) at the highest remaining seed. 

Geneseo scored the lone goal of the first period to take a 1-0 lead with 12:01 on the clock. Keenan skated the puck into the Potsdam zone a took a shot that sailed left of the Bears' goal and caromed to senior forward Stephen Collins on the left wing boards. Collins send a pass to junior forward Mitch Ferguson, who scored on a wrist shot from the top of the zone for his first goal in a Knights' sweater. 

The Knights took command with two goals in the first two minutes of the second period. Senior defenseman Pat Condon scored on a power-play slap shot from the top-left corner of the Potsdam zone at 19:38 before Keenan took advantage of a fortunate bounce on a red-line dump by senior defenseman Derek Stahl that deflected off the back boards into the low slot for an easy finish at 18:54. 

First-year forward Andrew Romano made it a 4-0 Geneseo lead after taking a Stahl feed from the left wing boards and back-pedaling across the crease to score on a shot inside the right post at 13:54. Keenan finished a cross-ice feed from senior forward Trevor Hills inside the right post on a two-on-one break with 3:02 on the clock as the Knights' built a 5-0 advantage heading into the final period. 

In the third, Hills finished a feed from senior defenseman Cam Hampson inside a wide-open left post at 13:20 before Keenan completed his second collegiate hat-trick from close range off a nice feed from senior forward Jack Ceglarski with 10:00 on the clock. Hills tacked on his second tally off a Collins feed with 5:08 remaining to wrap up the victory. 

Senior goalie Matt Leon finished the night with 20 saves in 40 minutes of work while senior goalie Bradley Hawayek stopped all 13 of the shots he saw in the final 20 minutes of play. 

The 10 members of the Geneseo Class of 2017 were honored in a post-game ceremony.
