Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Conlan Keenan scored two goals to lead the No. 8 Knights to a 5-2 victory over visiting Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo (4-1-0, 2-1-0 SUNYAC) got on the board five minutes into the game. First-year forward David Szmyd threw a pass from behind the Bears' goal into the slot where sophomore forward Andrew Romano slid the puck across the goal mouth to Keenan for a close-range one-timer.
- Potsdam (3-1-1, 0-1-0 SUNYAC) evened the score with a power-play tally with less than two minutes left in the first on a slap shot from the point by senior forward Dylan Vander Esch.
- Just under two minutes into the second period, a shot from the point by junior defenseman Duggie Lagrone deflected off Potsdam senior goalie Brendan McMenimen's pads to Romano, who flipped a short pass to Keenan in the slot that he cashed in for his second goal of the game.
- Five minutes later, Potsdam once again answered after senior forward Joey Gilhooly collected a short rebound off the pads of Knights' junior goalie Devin McDonald and scored from close range.
- Geneseo forged ahead four minutes later with two goals in an 18-second span. Junior forward Zach Lynes notched his first goal of the season on a short rebound before sophomore forward Tyson Empey scored his team-leading sixth goal on a rebound with 8:45 left in the period.
- Knights' first-year forward Carson Kelley scored the lone goal of the third period after flipping a puck on goal from the right face-off circle that went through McMenimen's pads with 9:20 left in regulation.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo finished the night with a 49-24 advantage in shots.
- Romano's two assists give him a team-high nine for the season, while Szmyd and sophomore forward Eric Pedersen were also credited with two goals apiece.
- McDonald stopped 22 Potsdam shots to preserve his fourth win of the year.
