Women's Basketball Too Much For Elmira, 71-41

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Katie Vienneau totaled 11 points while senior guard Katie Durand and sophomore guard Sara Ciotti added 10 points apiece to lead the Knights to a 71-41 victory over visiting Elmira, Thursday. The victory was Geneseo's 10th-straight to open the 2016-17 campaign.

A three-point jumper by Durand kicked off an 11-2 run that staked the Knights to a 16-8 lead with 1:34 left in the first quarter. Back-to-back lay-ups by Ciotti and sophomore guard Kelsey Poplawski to start the second quarter gave the home team its first double-digit lead, 23-13, at the 8:54 mark.

The Soaring Eagles (3-6) pulled back within seven, 30-23, with 2:45 remaining in the half, but were held to one free throw during an eight minute span into the third quarter that saw Geneseo hit 10 of its next 13 shots en route to a 53-24 lead with 5:02 on the clock.

The Knights' lead grew to as many as 30 in the fourth quarter as the home team finished the game with a 45-28 advantage in rebounds while cashing in 19 Elmira turnovers for 22 points. 

Geneseo has a quick turnaround, hosting SUNYAC-rival Brockport on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
