Field Hockey Falls, 3-1 To No. 6 William Smith

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Maria Dillingham notched her second goal of the season, but it was No. 6 William Smith earning a 3-1 victory over the Knights, Wednesday night.

William Smith (2-1) got on the board 23 second into the contest after junior forward Alessandra Patrizio received a cross in front of the Geneseo crease and scored on a close-range strike. 

The Herons made it a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute after junor forward Maura Moran spun toward the left side of the crease and scored on a back-handed shot through traffic. 

Less than three minutes into the second half, junior midfielder Alexandra Frary collected a loose ball after a William Smith penalty corner and dribbled through two Geneseo defenders to score on a shot inside the right post for the 3-0 edge.

Dillingham got Geneseo (0-3) on the board in the 66th minute, flicking a tipped pass from junior forward Giovanna Fasanello on the crease after a cross from the right side of the cage. 

Knights' junior goalie Nicole Gregg tied a season high with nine saves in the setback as William Smith finished the night with a 20-8 edge in shots.

Geneseo takes on its second nationally ranked opponent of the week traveling to No. 11 Skidmore this Saturday (Sept. 10) for a 12:00 p.m. match.
