Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore defenseman Pat Condon scored the game-tying goal early in the third period as the No. 12/13 Knights skated to a 3-3 draw at No. 2/2 Plattsburgh, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action.
Senior defenseman Matt Solomon and junior forward Stephen Collins also netted goals for Geneseo (15-4-6, 9-2-5 SUNYAC), which secured the third seed for the SUNYAC Tournament. The Knights will host sixth-seeded Potsdam on Wednesday (Feb. 24) at 7:00 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.
First-year goalie Devin McDonald was credited with 33 saves as the Knights played to their fifth overtime game in seven outings.
Solomon put the Knights on the board with a power play tally with 8:50 left in the first period before Plattsburgh answered 18 seconds later. Collins put Geneseo back on top with 6:31 remaining in the first but the Cardinals answered again at 3:15 to close out the first period with the score knotted, 2-2.
The second period was 27 seconds away from being scoreless, but Plattsburgh solved McDonald to carry a 3-2 lead into the final period of regulation.
Condon found the equalizer on a shot from the point that found the back of the net with only 36 seconds elapsed in the third.
Plattsburgh out-shot the Knights, 36-25, on the evening but McDonald preserved the tie with his seventh outing of the season with at least 30 saves.
