Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward AJ Sgaraglio scored the game-winning goal while first-year goalie Devin McDonald totaled 36 saves to lead the No. 12/13 Knights to a 2-0 shutout at Potsdam, Friday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey.
Tied, 0-0, with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Sgaraglio found the net off assists by senior forward Ryan Donnelly and junior defenseman Cam Hampson to put Geneseo (15-4-5, 9-2-4 SUNYAC) on the board with 3:05 left in regulation.
First-year forward Anthony Marra cashed in helpers from junior defenseman Derek Stahl and senior forward David Ripple 1:11 later to seal the victory.
Potsdam (11-9-4, 7-6-2 SUNYAC) out-shot the Knights, 36-30, but McDonald kept the Bears off the board to earn his second career shutout in a Knights' sweater.
Already assured a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament, Geneseo holds a one-point lead over Buffalo State heading into the final day of the regular season. The Knights would clinch the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a victory at Plattsburgh or a loss by Buffalo State to visiting Cortland. If both Geneseo and Buffalo State tie, the Knights would earn the No. 2 seed as well.
Both games are slated for 7:00 p.m. face-offs on Saturday.
A Knights' loss coupled with a Buffalo State win or tie would move Geneseo into the third seed and set up a first-round play-in game at home on Wednesday (Feb. 24) at 7:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
