Women's Basketball Holds Off Misericordia, 69-59

Box Score

DALLAS, Pa. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard Katie Durand scored 16 points while senior forward Katie Vienneau added 10 points and six rebounds to lead the Knights to a 69-59 victory at Misericordia, Sunday.

Misericordia (3-3) broke an early 8-8 tie with an 11-2 run to build an 19-10 edge at the end of the first quarter. Trailing, 21-12, at the 8:27 mark of the second quarter, the Knights scored nine-unanswered points capped by a lay-up from sophomore forward McKenna Brooks that tied the game, 21-21, as Geneseo went into the halftime locker room with a 28-25 advantage.

The Knights began to pull away midway through the third quarter. The Cougars took a brief 35-34 lead with 4:21 on the clock, but an old-fashioned three-point play by Brooks started a 12-0 run that gave the Knights a 46-35 lead at the 2:12 mark that grew to 50-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

Geneseo led by as many as 17, 57-40, on a three-pointer by first-year guard Madison McCulley with 8:14 left in the game as the Knights moved on to their fourth-consecutive victory to open the season.

Geneseo kicks of play in the State University of New York Athletic Conference later this week, hosting New Paltz on Friday (Dec. 2) at 7:30 p.m. before taking on visiting Oneonta on Saturday (Dec. 3) at 4:00 p.m.
