Women's Soccer Defeats Potsdam, 1-0

GENESEO N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Laurie Knapp scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over visiting Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Friday.

Knapp scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 25th minute. The Knights won a free kick from 40 yards out, which was taken by sophomore midfielder Ashley Byrne She played the ball into the box where Knapp scored with a first-touch volley into the right side of the goal 

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski was only called upon to make two saves as Geneseo (7-2-5, 4-1-2 SUNYAC) out-shot Potsdam 25-4. It was the Knights fourth consecutive clean sheet and fifth in their last six outings. Potsdam (9-6-1, 2-5-1 SUNYAC) senior goalkeeper Bri Thibeau logged 15 saves for the Bears in the defeat.

The victory also clinched Geneseo a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament slated to start next week.

The Knight wrap up the regular season at home against Plattsburg on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 1:00 p.m.
