Mens Soccer Defeats New Paltz, 2-1

Box Score

GENESEO N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Bryan Wager scored in a 2-1 victory against visiting New Paltz in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) showdown, Saturday

Geneseo (6-4-1, 2-2 SUNYAC) scored the lone first-half goal in the 40th minute. Senior forward Ethan Gunty received the ball on the right side of the box, where he shielded off a defender and got to the end line. From there, he played a pass across the face of the goal to Wager, who scored from inside the six-yard box to give the Knights the lead.

Geneseo was credited with an own goal in the 57th minute. A misplaced clearance by a Hawks defender led to the goal, and gave the Knights a 2-0 lead.

New Paltz (5-3-4, 1-3 SUNYAC) would reply with a goal of their own in the 65th minute by junior midfielder Ben Zilka. A ball was played into the box on a free kick where first-year goalkeeper Dillon Medd saved a header attempt by the Hawks. However, the ball landed in the path of Zilka, who scored inside the left post.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 5) as they visit RIT at 4:00 p.m.
