Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Connor Anthoine scored the Knights' lone goal in a 7-1 setback at Hobart, Friday night, in a match-up of nationally-ranked teams. Geneseo entered the game No. 4 in the d3hockey.com poll and No. 8 in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) rankings while Hobart was No. 5 and No. 9, respectively.
The non-conference loss snapped the Knights five-game winning streak, dropping the team to 8-2-2 on the season.
Anthoine's tally came at the 9:26 mark of the first period, just one second after the conclusion of a Knights' power play. It was Anthoine's third goal of the season and was assisted by junior forward Jack Ceglarski and junior defender Cam Hampson.
The host Statesmen knotted the game on a power-play tally at the 12:18 mark and dominated the remainder of the first period, outshooting Geneseo 18-6. Hobart built the lead to 3-1 on goals 18 seconds apart early in the second period and carried the two-goal margin into the third period.
The Statesmen added four more scores in the final stanza. Geneseo first-year goalie Devin McDonald had 37 saves while junior Matt Leon, who manned the net for the final 10 minutes, allowed one goal on eight shots. Hobart (9-2-2) outshot the Knights 51-17 on the night.
Geneseo returns to action tomorrow, Jan. 9, at Elmira. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
