Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior guard Dana Cohan scored 15 points and handed out five assists while junior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh had 15 points and six rebounds off the bench to lead the Knights to a 73-57 victory at Brockport in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Friday.
Junior guard Katie Durand tallied 13 points and six rebounds and senior forward Allison McKenna added 10 points and six rebounds in the win. Golden Eagles' junior guard Faith Welch led all scorers with 19 points.
Geneseo opened the game with a 14-0 run that was capped by a Cohan three-pointer at 5:58 in the first quarter. Leading 19-4 at the four-minute mark, Brockport scored back-to-back threes to come within nine, 19-10, at 2:11. Durand made a lay-up with 14 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 21-10 advantage at the end of the quarter.
At 5:32 in the second quarter, Cavanaugh scored from beyond the arc to extend Geneseo's lead to 15, 27-12. With 2:33 to play in the quarter, McKenna made a lay-up following a steal by Durand to make it a 17-point game, 32-15, as the team held a 34-20 halftime lead.
With 6:52 on the clock in the third quarter, first-year guard Schyler Laux hit a jumper to bring the Golden Eagles (10-7, 6-4 SUNYAC) within 10, 36-26. The Knights responded with a 9-3 spurt to go up 45-29 at 4:41 and held a 12-point lead, 51-39, heading into the final quarter.
At 4:54 in the fourth quarter, Durand made a jump shot to put Geneseo back up by 15, 64-49. Ahead by 11, 65-54, with 1:57 remaining, the Knights scored eight of the final 11 points in the game, including four from the free throw line, to secure the victory.
Geneseo (13-4, 8-2 SUNYAC) returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, at home opposite Oswego. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
