Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Trevor Hills scored two goals while senior forward David Ripple added another as the No. 12/12 Knights defeated host Oswego, 3-1, Tuesday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey.
Geneseo (12-3-3, 6-1-2 SUNYAC) first-year goalie Devin McDonald notched 24 saves, including a penalty shot stop in the third period, to improve to 10-2-2 on the season.
With 33.1 seconds on the first period clock, a failed Lakers' clear gave way to a Hills one-on-one opportunity that he finished for the 1-0 advantage at the first intermission.
Oswego (9-7-2, 6-4-1 SUNYAC) answered early in the second period to knot the game at 1-1. Junior defenseman Sean Federow corralled a Geneseo clearing attempt from behind its own net and scored on a shot from the slot that beat McDonald low 41 seconds into the second stanza.
Hills scored his second of the night with 7:37 left in the second period after taking a centering pass from junior forward RJ Burns in front of the Lakers' net and scoring on a spinning shot into the upper right corner of the goal.
The Knights made it a two-goal edge with 5:13 left in regulation after Oswego was whistled for a hooking penalty. Ripple took a feed from first-year forward Anthony Marra in front of the Oswego net and swung the puck all the way around Oswego junior goalie Matt Zawadzki's pads for the Knights' third of the night.
In the final period, Oswego was awarded a penalty shot after sophomore forward David Ferreira was hooked on a breakaway attempt after stealing a pass at the top of the Geneseo zone. On the penalty shot, McDonald poke checked Ferreira's attempt on a last-second deke to maintain the two-goal edge that proved to be the difference.
Geneseo returns home on Friday to host Morrisville at 7:00 p.m.
