Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Allison McKenna tallied her fourth-straight double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 65-38 victory at home opposite Cortland, Tuesday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball action.
Junior guard Katie Durand added 12 points while senior guard Dana Cohan had seven points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the win. Junior forward Katie Vienneau contributed nine points and six rebounds off the bench for the Knights.
"Tonight was special for our team and the support from the fans was incredible," said head coach Scott Hemer. "The crowd absolutely helped motivate our team to play at a high level and we showed tonight that a lot of success can come from being committed on the defensive end."
At 4:20 in the first quarter, McKenna made a lay-up to cap a 10-0 Geneseo run to open the game. Following a lay-up by the Red Dragons at 3:47 to make it 10-2, the Knights went on a 7-2 spurt to close the quarter and go ahead by 13, 17-4.
Leading, 22-7, at 4:43 in the second quarter, senior forward Lea Sobieraski scored a lay-up to spark a 7-0 run by the Knights as the hosts took a 29-7 lead into halftime. Sobieraski finished the night with eight points and six rebounds.
Geneseo's run continued into the third quarter as the Knights held a 40-10 lead with 4:45 on the clock. The 11-3 spurt to start the period was capped by a lay-up from junior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh.
Ahead, 52-18, at 9:46 in the fourth quarter, Cohan sank a jumper to give Geneseo its largest lead of the night, 54-18, as Cortland (11-4, 6-2 SUNYAC) did not come within 25 points for the remainder of the game.
Geneseo (12-4, 7-2 SUNYAC) returns to action this Friday, Jan. 29, at Brockport. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
