Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Allison McKenna tallied her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds while also making a program-record eight blocks to lead the Knights to a 62-43 victory at Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Sunday night.
Senior guard Dana Cohan had nine points, eight assists and five rebounds while junior guard Kara Houppert added six points and 13 rebounds in the win.
"I'm proud of my players for how they've dealt with this entire week. They decided to play our games this weekend and went into it knowing Kelsey would not have wanted them to accept anything less than their best effort," said head coach Scott Hemer. "This was part of Kelsey's legacy in our program and the team worked hard to honor that for her."
At 5:36 in the first quarter, junior guard Katie Durand scored from long-range to put Geneseo up by eight, 13-5. Durand finished the night with 13 points and four rebounds. Senior forward Lea Sobieraski made a lay-up with 36 seconds on the clock to extend the Knights' lead to 13, 23-10, but Plattsburgh senior guard Allie Taylor buried a three as time expired to cut the deficit to 10 heading into the second quarter.
With 4:12 to play in the second quarter, Sobieraski scored a jumper to make it a 34-20 game. At the 1:05 mark, first-year guard Meghan Strong made a shot from beyond the arc to bring the Cardinals within nine, 36-27. Geneseo responded by scoring the final two buckets of the quarter to take a 40-27 lead into the break.
Leading, 42-30, at 8:33 in the third quarter, the Knights outscored Plattsburgh, 9-3, for the remainder of the period to go up by 18, 51-33. The spurt was capped by back-to-back jumpers from Cohan.
At 5:55 in the fourth quarter, junior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh made a three-pointer to give Geneseo its largest lead of the game, 58-33, and secure the team's fourth-straight victory.
The Knights (11-4, 6-2 SUNYAC) recorded 30 points in the paint and held Plattsburgh (9-7, 3-6 SUNYAC) to two while finishing with a 48-35 advantage in rebounds.
Geneseo returns to action this Tuesday at home opposite Cortland for a match-up set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
