Field Hockey Falls At St. John Fisher In OT, 2-1

Box Score

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Morgan Maley scored the game's first goal but it was host St. John Fisher coming back to earn the 2-1 victory in overtime, Saturday.

Maley put the Knights on the board in the 30th minute, deflecting home a shot by sophomore midfielder Giovanna Fasanello for the game's first tally.

St. John Fisher (6-2) answered less than two minutes later as Elizabeth Cusack scored on a rebound after Geneseo senior goalie Dayna Mercer saved an initial Cardinal shot.

The teams played a scoreless second half while Mercer notched five of her nine total saves to force extra time.

Just over six minutes into overtime, Emily Markarian took advantage of a breakaway opportunity, dribbling around Mercer to score the deciding goal.

Geneseo (3-5) continues its five-match road swing with a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference matchups at Oneonta on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and defending conference champion New Paltz on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
