Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Gabriella Clare scored two goals, but it was host Hamilton earning the 4-3 comeback win, Wednesday night.
Senior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer was credited with 12 saves, but it was the Colonials bouncing back from a two-goal deficit early in the first half, as well as a one-goal hole in the second to earn the win.
Clare scored back-to-back tallies barely a minute apart to put the Knights up, 2-0, with 25:37 on the first-half clock. She scored her first tally on a Knights' breakaway attempt, batting down a rebound after Hamilton keeper Julia Booth saved Geneseo's initial shot on goal. Clare netted her second goal during a scramble in front of the net, converting a shot from outside the left post.
Hamilton (4-2) answered less than a minute later as Brooke Talsania scored from the right post after bringing the ball in on a restart.
Geneseo (3-4) looked to carry its lead into halftime, but it was Hamilton's Emma Anderson deflecting in a shot from the right side on a penalty corner attempt with 2:23 on the clock to knot the game, 2-2, after 35 minutes of play.
The Knights retook the lead with 18:10 left in regulation afer sophomore forward Giovanna Fasanello lifted a penalty stroke over Booth's left shoulder to make it a 3-2 contest.
Hamilton again had a quick answer as Eva Rosencrans scored on a low shot inside the right post on a penalty corner attempt for a 3-3 score with 16:20 on the clock.
Rosencrans later scored what proved to be the game-winner during a penalty corner with 6:18 remaining as the Knights' two-game winning streak was snapped.
Geneseo plays the second leg of its current five-match road swing on Saturday, facing St. John Fisher at 11:00 a.m.
