Men's Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw At Houghton

Box Score

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Matt D'Amico tallied his third goal of the season to lead the Knights to a 1-1 draw at Houghton, in non-conference action Wednesday night. It was the third-straight game the squad played through two overtime periods.

"We started the game off strong and should have capitalized on a couple of opportunities," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "From the end of the first half on, we couldn't get into a rhythm offensively. The start to our second half was costly, we didn't start off well and Houghton took advantage. However, I am happy the team was able to fight back from being down once again."

Play went back and forth in the first half as neither team found the back of the net and Geneseo entered halftime with an 8-4 advantage in shots.

The Highlanders (2-3-1) broke up he scoreless tie in the 53rd minute when first-year forward Steven Anderson fired a shot from the top of the box off an assist from senior back Tyler Ashley.

In the 57th minute, D'Amico tied up the game with a score from the right side of the penalty area after junior midfielder Mike Skrzypczyk carried the ball up the middle of the field and slid him a pass.

Senior goalkeeper Logan Calvey made five saves on the night as the Knights outshot the hosts, 17-13.

Geneseo (3-0-3) returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hobart for a match-up at 2 p.m.
