Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Matt D'Amico tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Knights to a 2-2 draw at Clarkson in non-conference action, Friday.
"We got a positive result today after being down but we could have played more soundly throughout the game," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "We dictated play the entire first half and while we did strike first, Clarkson flustered us a bit in the second half. Our match tomorrow against St. Lawrence is the biggest game on our schedule to date so we'll have to get over today, show up ready to play and to see what we're made of."
Both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the first half as Geneseo entered the break with a 6-0 edge in shots.
In the 71st minute, D'Amico put the Knights on the board after he tapped in a goal at the back post off a cross from the left side of the field from junior midfielder Mike Skrzypczyk.
The Golden Knights (1-2-1) responded by scoring two goals in a span of 44 seconds. In the 77th minute, senior midfielder Paul Ancin scored into the lower left corner of the net. In the 78th minute, a score from junior midfielder Max Leetz gave the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Geneseo (3-0-1) tied up the game in the 83rd minute on a tally by junior forward Ethan Gunty. Following a corner kick by senior midfielder Jaisen Clark, D'Amico headed the ball to Beisner for the score into the near post.
In overtime, the Knights fired seven shots but were unable to tally the go-ahead goal. Senior keeper Logan Calvey recorded three saves as the visitors outshot Clarkson, 27-10.
Geneseo returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a game at No. 13 St. Lawrence at 2 p.m.
