GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Leah Greene tallied two goals and one assist while sophomore forward Audrey Reid added two goals to lead the Knights past visiting Alfred, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon in the first match ever played at Geneseo's new College Stadium.

"It was a great, positive start for us. It's always nice to get a lot of goals and play the entire team in your first game of the season," said head coach Nate Wiley. "We did a lot of things well but our level of play dipped a little bit at times so that's something we'll work on going forward. We're going to face strong teams in the coming weeks so our level of play will need to be a bit more consistent."

In the 12th minute, junior Emily Green put the Knights on the board after tapping in a pass from Greene for a goal from the left side of the box. Greene made it a 2-0 game in the 15th minute after dribbling the ball into the middle of the penalty box and scoring off the left post.

In the 26th minute, Reid scored from 10-yards out off an assist from junior forward Erin O'Connor. Reid capitalized again for the Knights just under eight minutes later, scoring into the right side of the net off a cross from junior midfielder Ashley O'Connor.

In the 38th minute, Ashley O'Connor fired a shot from the top of the penalty box into the upper right corner of the net to make it a 5-0 game entering halftime.

Geneseo went on to score two more times in the second half. In the 47th minute, Greene netted her second goal of the game with a strike from 10-yards out off an assist from senior midfielder Marissa Benson. In the 86th minute, first-year forward Elora Becraft tallied her first collegiate goal off a pass from first-year forward Catherine Cunningham. 

The Knights (1-0) took 45 shots, 25 of which were on goal, and held Alfred (0-1) to zero. The team returns to action this Friday, Sept. 4, at home versus Mary Washington. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
