Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior guard Justin Ringen scored a game-high 21 points while senior forward Nick Fessenden added 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Knights to a 91-80 victory over RIT in the consolation final of the Wendy's College Classic, hosted by Rochester, Saturday.
Sophomore point guard Charlie Zaepfel finished the game with 14 points and eight assists directing the Knights offense.
Geneseo (6-1) jumped out to a 15-1 lead that ballooned to as many as 19 in the first half, holding a 51-37 edge at intermission thanks in part to 13 points from Ringen and 12 point by junior guard John Decker. The Knights combined to shoot 8-of-15 from long range and 54.8 percent from the field overall during the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Tigers (3-4) would draw as close as 11 points, 74-63, with 7:05 on the clock, but Geneseo would build its lead back up to as many as 18 down the stretch to secure the win.
"Going 2-1 in this tournament certainly isn't easy," said head coach Steve Minton. "(Senior guard Connor Keenan) was big for us defensively as he always draws tough assignment for us. We got great production off the bench with Decker and established a strong inside game with Fessenden."
Ringen was named an first-team all-tournament selection after also scoring 30 points in the team's second-round setback to Roberts Wesleyan (Dec. 3) as well as in the opening-round victory at Nazareth (Dec. 1).
The Knights will be off until January 5th when they open play in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off opposite visiting Fredonia.
