Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Trevor Hills scored two goals and an assist while first-year forward Brodie Tutton scored his first two collegiate goals to lead the No. 12/14 Knights to a 6-2 victory over visiting Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's ice hockey action, Friday.

A 4-1 lead after one period of play proved to be the difference as Geneseo (6-1-2, 3-1-2 SUNYAC) earned its sixth victory in its last seven outings, while Potsdam (6-3-1, 6-2-0 SUNYAC), is now winless in its last four outings after starting the season with six-consecutive victories.

After the Knights were whistled for an interference penalty 1:25 into the game, Potsdam got on the board 10 seconds later after senior forward Todd Thomas collected a rebound off the pads ofGeneseo first-year goalie Devin McDonald's pads and scored inside the right post.

The Knights responded with four goals in a nine-minute stretch to build a three-goal edge. Senior forward David Ripple scored on a hard shot from the left face-off circle with 16:18 on the clock. Just over a minute and half later, first-year forward Joe Serpico blocked a shot in the Geneseozone and fed a center ice pass to Tutton, who broke loose behind the Bear's defense to best sophomore goalie Brendan McMenimen on the one-on-one opportunity.

Just over four minutes later, junior defender Derek Stahl cleared the Geneseo zone with a pass to center ice where first-year forward Anthony Marra sped into the Potsdam slot and fed a short pass to the left where a trailing Hills scored on the short side into the upper-left corner of the cage. Marra netted his own goal with 7:52 on the clock after finishing a nice feed from junior forward Stephen Collins from close range during a rush that ended up chasing McMenimen from goal in favor of first-year goalie Trever Ralph.

Potsdam cashed in another power-play opportunity midway through the second period after sophomore forward Joey Gilhooly beat McDonald during a rush on the Geneseo cage following a feed from Thomas. The Knights regained its four-goal edge with 57 seconds left in the period afterTutton scored on a right-wing blast that made it a 5-2 game after 40 minutes of play.

Hills scored the lone goal of the final period, burying a nice Ripple feed from behind the left post across the front of the crease into the right side of the net with 9:05 on the clock.

McDonald finished the night with 29 saves, including a penalty shot in the second period, to finish three shy of his career-high 32 (at Fredonia Nov. 21) and improve to 6-0-1 on his rookie campaign. Ralph ended the night with 25 saves over the final 48 minutes of action.

Geneseo hosted the fifth-annual "Teddy Bear Toss" as fans were welcomed to throw a new or slightly used stuffed animal on the ice following the Knights' first goal of the evening that were all donated to local charity for the holidays.

Geneseo returns to action on Saturday, hosting top-ranked Plattsburgh at 7:00 p.m.
