Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Katie Vienneau scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the second-seeded Knights over third-seed and host Rochester, 56-48, in the semifinals of the Wendy's College Classic, Thursday night. The Yellowjackets entered the night entered No. 18 nationally.
With the win, Geneseo snapped an 11-game home winning streak by Rochester in the Wendy's Tournament and advances to the championship game opposite top-seeded Roberts Wesleyan. The game is slated for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Rochester.
"I felt it was the first time this season the we really worked hard for 40 minutes," said head coach Scott Hemer. "Hopefully the team sees that when you combine talent with hard work, good things can happen. Overall it was a nice win and a good step forward for this group who is still trying to figure out who they are."
Senior forward Allison McKenna had 11 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Dana Cohan added six points and five assists in the victory.
The Knights opened the game with an 11-2 run that was capped by a three-pointer from McKenna at 6:17 in the first quarter. The Yellowjackets responded with an 8-2 run to make it a 13-10 game with 52 seconds on the clock. Geneseo scored the final four points to take a 17-10 lead into the second quarter.
Leading 24-17 following a lay-up by first-year forward McKenna Brooks at 3:39, senior guard Kayla Kiblng scored from beyond the arc to cut Rochester's deficit to four, 24-20. At 2:24, junior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh made a lay-up to put the Knights up, 26-20, but the hosts tallied the next four points to make it 26-24 at halftime.
At 7:27 in the third quarter, a lay-up by McKenna extended the visitor's lead back to six, 30-24. With 4:35 on the clock, junior guard Brynn Lauer was fouled while taking a shot from long range and made all three free-throws to cut the lead to one, 34-33. The Yellowjackets sank a three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the quarter to remain down by one, 40-39, heading into the final period of play.
Geneseo opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run to take an eight-point lead, 49-41, at 4:30. Rochester scored seven of the next 11 points to make it 53-48 with 2:12 to play but the Knights made three of four free throws in the final minutes to seal the win.
