Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Arthur Gordon scored the game-winning goal with 1:06 left in regulation to lead the Knights to a 4-3 victory over visiting Canton, Saturday night.
The win completed a two-game sweep of the Kangaroos as Geneseo (2-0-2) also picked up a 7-4 victory on Friday.
Canton (1-3-0) carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The visitors got on the board after a blue-line drive by first-year forward Joe Deveny deflected off Knights first-year goalie Devin McDonald's pads before first-year forward Gabe Flood tipped home the short rebound with 12:23 on the clock. With only four seconds remaining, sophomore defender Ben Beasley beat the horn with a short shot off an assist by senior forward George Curry to stake Canton to the two-goal edge.
Geneseo got one back in the second as senior defenseman Matt Solomon took a feed from sophomore forward Stephen Collins at the left face-off dot and beat Kangaroo senior goalie Louie Puig on a one-on-one rush with 4:17 remaining in the period.
Geneseo drew even less than three minutes into the third period as junior forward Connor Anthoine took a feed in slot from senior forward David Ripple and beat Puig with a quick shot. However, Canton converted a power-play goal less than three minutes later after sophomore defender Trenton Yule scored in front of a crowded Knights net to retake the lead with 14:46 left in regulation.
The Knights answered back with a power-play goal of their own as junior forward Trevor Hills took a feed in the left face-off circle and jammed a shot in the upper right corner of the Kangaroo net to knot the score, 3-3, with 7:46 on the clock.
Gordon's deciding tally came on a short rebound after Puig made a save off the stick of first-year forward Joe Serpico from the slot.
McDonald earned his second victory in as many nights, stopping 24 of the 27 shots he faced.
Hills totaled four goals and two assists during the two-game set with Canton, including two power-play tallies as well as a short-handed goal.
Geneseo returns to action next Friday (Nov. 13), hosting Brockport at 7:00 p.m.
