Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Stephen Collins tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Knights to a 4-2 victory at Fredonia in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday night.
With 15:58 on the clock in the first period, first-year forward Arthur Gordon found the back of the net for his fourth goal on the season off an assist from Collins to give Geneseo a 1-0 lead. Fredonia tied the game at the 5:52 mark on a power-play goal by first-year forward Jimmy Morgan.
The Knights responded just 51 seconds later when Collins scored off an assist from first-year forward Anthony Marra, as the visitors held a 2-1 edge at the end of the first period.
Geneseo went on to take a three-goal lead midway through the second period. At 8:56, junior defenseman Cam Hampson scored off assists by sophomore forward Sotiris Athanasopoulos and junior forward Jack Ceglarski and just over a minute later at 7:47, Collins netted his second goal of the game on a power play off assists from senior defender Matt Solomon and Marra to put the Knights up 4-1.
At the 3:15 mark, Fredonia junior defenseman Zach White scored on a power-play with assists from first-year forward Bobby Polachek and junior forward Hunter Long to make it a 4-2 game after two periods of play.
With 2:07 remaining in the game, Geneseo got back on the scoreboard. Ceglarski notched a short-handed goal off an assist by junior forward Connor Anthoine to put the Knights back up by three, 5-2. Fredonia (3-4-1, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) responded with a score 33 seconds later but junior forward RJ Burns scored an empty-netter off an assist from senior forward Ryan Donnelly to secure the win for Geneseo.
First-year goalie Devin McDonald recorded 32 saves to improve to 4-0-1 on the season.
The Knights (4-1-2, 2-1-2 SUNYAC) return to action next Saturday, Nov. 28, at Williams. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
