No. 20 Women's Basketball Falls To Gettysburg In Season-Opener, 50-47

FROSTBURG, Md. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Allison McKenna totaled a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds but it was Gettysburg scoring a three in the final seconds to take the 50-47 win on the first night of the Jim Crawley Tournament, hosted by Frostburg St., Friday. The No. 20 Knights will face St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.

First-year forward McKenna Brooks added 12 points and nine rebounds while senior guard Dana Cohan tallied 11 points and three assists in the setback.

Tied, 7-7, at 6:02 in the first quarter, Geneseo went on a 9-4 run, which was capped by a steal and lay-up by Brooks, to take a 16-11 lead with 2:19 on the clock. Following a Gettysburg score and two made free-throws by McKenna, first-year guard Emma Dorshimer made a jumper for the Bullets with 11 seconds remaining as the Knights took a 18-15 lead into the second quarter.

With 6:26 left until halftime, Cohan scored from long range to put Geneseo up, 25-22. At 2:35, McKenna made a lay-up to extend the Knights' lead to five, 31-26. Cohan made two free throws in the finals seconds of the half to give Geneseo a 33-28 advantage at the break.

In the third quarter, Gettysburg (1-0) went on a 9-0 run to take a 37-33 lead with 3:41 on the clock. However, the Knights responded by scoring nine unanswered points of their own to take a 42-37 lead into the final quarter.

At the 6:27 mark in the fourth quarter, McKenna scored a lay-up to bring the lead back to five, 45-40, but the Bullets sank back-to-back three-pointers to go up, 46-45, with 4:01 left to play. After another McKenna lay-up at 3:39 made it 47-46, neither team scored until the last minute of regulation.

Following a Geneseo (0-1) foul with 45 seconds on the clock, sophomore forward Annie Reilly made one of two free throws to tie the game at 47. The Knights were unable to score on their next possession, resulting in a Gettysburg timeout at the 10-second mark. Senior forward Jessica Porter went on to score from beyond the arc with three seconds remaining to give the Bullets the non-conference victory.
