Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior defender Elena Hingston scored her fourth goal of the season but it was visiting Rochester earning the 3-1 victory, Saturday.
The Yellowjackets took a 2-0 halftime lead that proved to the difference as Hingston's goal in the 40th minute wasn't enough for the Knights (10-8). Michelle Relin scored all three goals for Rochester (15-4).
The Yellowjackets got on the board in the 20th minute after Relin scored on a 15-yard crossing shot from the left half of the circle into the right side of the cage. In the 32nd minute, Relin scored on a short shot inside the right post to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead it would take into halftime.
Just over five minutes into the second half, Hingston took a feed from sophomore midfielder Morgan Maley on a penalty corner and scored on a drive from the top of the circle to cut the Rochester lead in half. However, Relin completed the hat-trick in the 61st minute after eluding the Knights defense and scoring on a shot into the right corner of the cage to seal the victory.
Geneseo senior goalie Dayna Mercer was credited with 14 saves as Rochester out-shot the Kngihts, 24-13. Tara Lambert totaled eight saves to earn her 15th decision of the year.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 4), traveling to New Paltz for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament semifinal showdown. Third-seeded Geneseo takes on the second-seeded Hawks at 2:00 p.m. with a spot in Saturday's (Nov. 7) championship game on the line versus either top-seeded Cortland or fourth-seeded Oneonta, to be played on the home field of the highest remaining seed after the first round.
