Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Versus Oneonta, 2-1

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. - Senior forward Kelsey Raschke tallied her first goal of the season but it was Oneonta taking the 2-1 road win over the Knights, Saturday, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.

In the ninth minute, Geneseo struck first as Raschke scored from the top of the penalty area after senior midfielder Marissa Benson laid a pass back to her from the middle of the box.

The Red Dragons responded in the 40th minute when first-year back Hannah Kaplan knocked in a goal following a corner kick and a scramble in front of the net, causing first-year keeper Emily Janiszewski to come off her line. The Knights entered halftime with a 6-1 advantage in shots.

In the 77th minute, Red Dragons' sophomore forward Rachel Berk recorded the eventual game-winning goal when she chipped the ball over Janiszewski near the top of the penalty box after senior midfielder Jessica Lyden sent her a pass down the middle of the field.

Geneseo (6-3-1, 2-2 SUNYAC) outshot Oneonta (7-1-2, 3-0-1 SUNYAC), 10-6, while the visitors finished with a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Knights return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Houghton for a game at 7 p.m.
