Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Diana Ruggiero, first-year forward Gabriella Clare and sophomore forward Cara Stafford each tallied a goal to lead the Knights to a 3-1 victory over visiting Houghton in non-conference action, Wednesday night.
The Highlanders struck first when in the 28th minute, first-year forward Nicole Jennings scored from the middle of the circle into the right side of the net off an assist from sophomore midfielder Ashley Hughes.
Geneseo responded early in the second half, scoring two goals in 46 seconds. In the 47th minute, Ruggiero scored from the left side of the circle over Houghton's keeper into the back right of the net off an assist from senior midfielder Elena Hingston. In the 48th minute, Clare collected the ball after it bounced off a defender and notched a goal to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.
In the 58th minute, Stafford recorded her team-high 13th goal of the year after senior forward Sarah Malinak dribbled down the right side of the field and delivered a cross into the middle of the circle.
Geneseo (8-7) outshot Houghton (7-7) on the night, 22-9, while senior keeper Dayna Mercer finished with five saves.
The Knights return to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action this Saturday, Oct. 24, at home opposite Oswego. Game time is set for 1 p.m. as the team's five seniors will be honored at halftime.
