Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore midfielder Morgan Maley scored two goals and an assist to lead the Knights to a 5-0 shutout at Oneonta in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey action, Friday.
Geneseo (4-5, 2-0 SUNYAC) scored three first half goals and added two more in the second to earn their second conference victory of the season. The Knights out-shot the Red Dragons (3-6, 1-2 SUNYAC), 21-8, while senior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer logged four saves to earn the shutout.
Maley opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a goal off an assist from first-year midfielder Tess Necaise.
In the 30th minute, Maley fed senior defender Elena Hingston for a goal during a penalty corner attempt, before tipping in her second tally four minutes later to stake the Knights to a three-goal advantage it would carry into halftime.
Geneseo struck again in the fourth minute of the second half after first-year forward Gabriella Clare found senior forward Sarah Malinak open for a goal for the 4-0 cusion.
Sophomore midfielder Cara Stafford finished off a loose ball with a shot from the right side for her fifth goal of the season to close the scoring.
Geneseo returns to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. faceoff at defending SUNYAC Champion New Paltz.
