Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forwards Tyler Brickler and Ryan Stanimir and sophomore defenseman Cam Hampson were each credited with a goal and an assist to lead the Knight past visiting Canton, 3-1, Saturday night.
The Knights were hosting Down Syndrome Awareness Night, as funds were raised for the Arc of Livingston and Wyoming in honor of Jack Reed, the son of SUNY Geneseo Interim Director of Admissions Kevin Reed, who was recently born with Down syndrome.
Following a Geneseo high-sticking call at 4:43 of the first period, Canton (5-12-1) took a 1-0 lead three seconds later. Brett Costello won the ensuing face-off that went directly to the top of the slot where Ben Beasley scored on a knuckling shot that made its way through traffic and Geneseo sophomore goalie Matt Leon's pads for the game's first goal.
Brickler evened the score with a power-play goal of his own with 9:40 to play in the second period. Following an interference call on the Kangaroos, Stanimir took a hard shot from the point that deflected off goalie Louie Puig's pads to Brickler, who cleaned up the rebound from close range for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
With 1:02 remaining in regulation, Geneseo made Canton pay for a slashing call after Hampson scored on a power-play slap shot from the top of the left slot following a cross-ice feed from sophomore forward Stephen Collins for the deciding goal.
Stanimir tacked on another power-play tally 43 seconds later on a shot from the right corner to secure the Geneseo victory.
Geneseo out-shot Canton, 53-24, as Puig was credited with 50 saves on the night. Leon picked up his second victory in as many starts, turning away 23 Kangaroo shots.
The Knights return to SUNYAC play next weekend, traveling north to play Plattsburgh on Friday (Jan. 31) and Potsdam on Saturday (Feb. 1). Both games are slated for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
