Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Gordon Lyons totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds while senior guard Andy Drescher scored a game-high 20 points, but it was host Cortland taking down the Knights, 70-60, Tuesday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action.
Cortland jumped out to a 13-5 lead at the 14:10 mark of the first half, but Genseo would bounce back over the next seven minutes with a 17-6 run capped by a Drescher three-pointer to take a 21-19 lead at 6:51.
Trailing by one, 27-26, at 3:15, a pair of Lyons free throws kicked off a 6-0 Geneseo spurt as the Knights took a 32-27 lead into halftime.
The teams traded blows for most of the second half that saw five lead changes and five ties. Cortland finally pulled away down the stretch, breaking a 50-50 tie at 6:17 with a 12-2 run to build a 62-52 lead at 3:06 it would not relinquish.
Senior forward James McKenna also registered double-digit points for Geneseo with 14, but Cortland's depth proved to be a big factor as the Red Dragon bench out-scored the Knights' reserves by a 26-2 margin.
Geneseo kicks off a three-game SUNYAC home stand on Friday, hosting Plattsburgh at 5:30 p.m.
