Women's Basketball Takes Down Buffalo State, 78-62

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior forward Shannon McGinnis scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season to lead the Knights over visiting Buffalo State, 78-62, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Saturday.

Junior forward Allison McKenna had 12 points and 12 rebounds while senior guard Biz Reinhardt totaled 12 points and nine rebounds and junior guard Dana Cohan added 14 points and four assists.

At 17:25, Geneseo took an early 9-2 lead after Reinhardt converted a three-point play. Just over three minutes later, the Bengals hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 13.

With 10:58 on the clock, Buffalo State made a lay-up to take a one-point lead, 17-16, but back-to-back lay-ups by sophomore guard Katie Durand and senior center Katie Peterson put the Knights up 20-17 at 9:32. Durand finished with 13 points and six rebounds while Peterson had four points and four rebounds.

With 2:21 remaining in the half, the Bengals made two free-throws to regain the lead, 29-28, as the visitors took a 33-31 lead into halftime.

At 14:51 in the second half, McKenna hit two free-throws give Geneseo the lead, 39-38, that it would not relinquish. At 7:36, Cohan made a shot from beyond the arc to put the Knights up 11, 58-47, while just over four minutes later, McKenna made a lay-up to make it 70-53.

With 1:50 left to play in the game, McGinnis made two free-throws to give the Knights their largest lead of the game, 76-53, as the team finished with a 16-point victory.

McGinnis moved into seventh-place on Geneseo's all-time scoring list, passing Tara Snavlin '03 (1184) with 1197 points to date. McGinnis also currently stands third in career rebounds with 816 to date. She is 13 rebounds away from passing Lynn Hamilton '91 (829) for second place.

The Knights return to action this Tuesday (Jan. 20) with a game at Cortland set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
