Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year back Kevin McGrath scores early in the first half to lead the Knights past host Nazareth, 3-0, in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon.
"Today we were able to hold the ball and maintain possession really well," said head coach Dominic Oliveri. "The early goal gave us an extra boost of confidence, ultimately leading to us converting twice more. Nazareth had a couple opportunities in the second half but we were real sound defensively."
McGrath tallied his first collegiate goal after rebounding his own shot in the box to put Geneseo on top in the fifth minute. Junior forward Stanley Egbuchulam made it a 2-0 game in the 35th minute when he drilled a left-footed shot into the lower corner of the net off a long pass from junior back Chris Kanaval.
The Knights extended their lead in the 45th minute when senior midfielder Jason Falk collected a pass from first-year midfielder Walter Savidis and chipped the ball over Golden Flyers sophomore goalkeeper Nate Ripic to give Geneseo the 3-0 lead which held for the remainder of the game.
Junior keeper Logan Calvey recorded five saves to preserve his third shutout of the season as the Knights dictated play throughout the game and outshot Nazareth, 18-9.
Geneseo returns to action this Friday with a home game opposite New Paltz scheduled to kick-off at 4 p.m.
