GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior setter Bethany VanDerMeid was credited with a career-high 33 assists to go along with a team-high 10 digs to lead the Knights to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23) victory over visiting Hilbert, Wednesday night at Schrader Gymnasium.

Sophomore outside hitter Tricia Baxley added 11 kills while sophomore middle blocker Courtney Cleary registered 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage to pace the attack. Junior right side hitter Erika Dannenfelser served up seven aces in the victory. 

In the first set, Geneseo (4-0) broke a 13-13 tie with a 5-1 run that included a pair of kills by junior middle blocker Paige Pendleton to take a 18-14 lead. Hilbert (2-1) scored three-straight points, to pull back within one, but another 5-1 spurt by the Knights, highlighted by two Cleary kills, put the set out of reach.

A tight second set saw Geneseo use an 8-2 run to turn a 15-14 edge into a 23-16 lead en route to the seven-point win. Baxley registered a pair of kills to finish the decisive run that also included back-to-back Dannenfelser service aces. 

The Hawks looked to be in control of the third set after taking a 16-13 lead, but seven-unanswered points, including three more Dannenfelser service aces and two Baxley kills, pushed Genseo into a 20-16 lead it would not relinquish.  

Geneseo looks to keep its winning streak alive this Friday and Saturday with a pair of matches in Ohio. The Knights will take on host Oberlin on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before squaring off with Franciscan (Ohio) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
