Box Score TROY, N.Y. - Rensslaer broke a scoreless tie 2:15 into the second half with the eventual game-winning goal to lead Engineers to a 2-0 win over SUNY Geneseo in field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at Harkness Field.
After a scoreless first half, Rensselaer (3-5) got on the board with 32:45 on the clock as Knights junior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer came out of her cage as the Engineers were moving in on goal. RPI's Hana Murphy passed the ball to Molly Zuk, who tipped it into the net from close range. RPI doubled its score in the 43rd minute, when Jena Nawfel drove an unassisted shot from just inside the far circle straight into the back of the cage.
Geneseo (3-6) attempted to come back late in the game, letting loose a flurry of shots against RPI's Hannah Clough, but Knights were held scoreless.
Both teams took 17 shots in the game, with RPI holding a 12-5 lead in the first half and Geneseo posting a 12-5 advantage in the second. The Knights also came away with a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Clough recorded 10 saves for the Engineers, while Mercer was credited with 11 for Geneseo.
