Box Score 2 OSWEGO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team split two matches on Saturday in the opening State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play, hosted by Oswego. The Knights (15-3, 2-1 SUNYAC) defeated Brockport, 3-1, before falling to Buffalo State, 3-1. Including Friday nights's 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh, Geneseo finished the conference-opening weekend 2-1 to improve to 15-3 this fall.
Geneseo 3, Brockport 1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-20)
Sophomore outside hitter Tricia Baxley totaled a match-high 12 kills while junior outside hitter Lizzy Morton was credited with 17 digs to lead the Knights to the four-set win over the Golden Eagles.
Junior setter Bethany VanDerMeid compiled 27 assists while sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Pray added 12 assists to guide the offense.
Buffalo State 3, Geneseo 1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21)
Sophomore middle blocker Courtney Cleary notched 15 kills while Baxley added 14 kills, but it was Buffalo State earning the victory.
Sophomore libero Dani Sayler was credited with a career-high 24 digs while first-year Kathleen Irwin chipped in 11 digs to pace the defense. VanDerMeid dished out 30 assists while Pray totaled 12 for the Knights.
Geneseo continues SUNYAC Pool Play in two weeks at Cortland, taking on the host Red Dragons Friday at 5:00 p.m., before squaring off with Oneonta (10:00 a.m.) and Potsdam (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
